James has performed music most of his life. Having grown up in a musical family of ten, it was always there and covered a wide variety of styles. His father Reuben Quintero is a highly noted jazz chord/melody style guitarist on the rare 7-string guitar.
Having played music ranging from classical, jazz, blues and rock on both bass and guitar…and having played with several west-coast based country bands, James’ background made it a natural fit for the often-adventurous music of the Doo-Wahs.
Before joining the Doo-Wahs, James functioned as a lead technician for National Security Systems, Inc. Previously, he spent many years as a Vice President and consultant in the sporting goods marketing industry.
Although James continues with other personal business interests, music always remains a big part of his life. His ongoing business interests include the Christmas tree industry based in Ashland, OR and loudspeaker system design, manufacture and repair.
Personally, James is an avid sportfisherman which has drawn him to his favorite destinations of the Cayman Islands and New Zealand. Having played hockey, James spent several years as an official for the National Hockey League as a replay/review technician. His passion for high-tech Grand Prix road racing has made him a fiercely loyal follower of the Champ Car World Series and Formula One.
James’ passion for Spanish classical guitar keeps him busy in quiet times. He says “it’s in my blood”.
Born and raised in Long Beach, CA…it is still “home”.
